International Mendy joins Town from Macclesfield as Kissock exit is confirmed too

Guinea-Bissau international midfielder Arnaud Mendy has signed for Luton on loan from Blue Square Bet premier rivals Macclesfield - while it has also been confirmed that John Paul Kissock will join the Silkmen permanently in January, writes Mark Wood.

Kissock, 22, has been on-loan at Moss Rose for the last three months, while Mendy is a 6ft 3ins 22-year-old central midfielder who Luton are looking sign on a permanent deal in the January transfer window.

He has been handed the number 14 shirt and gone straight into Luton’s squad ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Cambridge United in the FA Cup.

Manager Paul Buckle said: “Anyone who saw our game against Macclesfield at Kenilworth Road earlier in the season will remember what an excellent performance Arnaud put in despite being on the losing side.

“He holds a great presence in the middle of the park, he can pass and shoot and isn’t afraid to get stuck in.

“Arnaud is the kind of player who can get games by the scruff of the neck and make things happen. His range of passing is frightening.”

Mendy, born in Evreux in France, impressed massively for the Silkmen despite them going down 4-1 on the night and has netted twice this season.

The all-action midfielder started his professional career with Rouen as a teenager before heading to England to sign for Derby County in 2008.

He made just one appearance for the Rams and also enjoyed loan spells at Grimsby and League One side Tranmere in 2010-11.

Following his release by the Rams he scored three goals in 33 appearances last term as Macclesfield were relegated from League Two.

Buckle had hinted at yesterday’s press conference he was still in the market for new signings, with midfield the area where Town were evidently lightest.

And Alex Lawless’ stellar conversion to full-back against Nuneaton last week could have been key.

Buckle had said: “I’m always looking. The picture changes so quickly in games.

“And none moreso than the other week with Lawless. When you are making changes like we’ve done of late during games to try and win them.

“You see Lawless go in at full-back so the picture changes which means that you are always looking if you can strengthen.

“Names get thrown at you, and pictures change for other managers and other players so we are always looking.”
