Hatters are closing in on Hayes & Yeading full back Yassin Moutaouakil, writes Mark Wood.

The 26-year-old was capped five times at U21 level for France and Charlton Athletic paid £400,000 for his services in June 2007 before being released in 2010.

He has struggled for fitness since the start of the season and has made just 11 starts for the Blue Square Bet South club this term.

Luton boss Paul Buckle said: “We are hopeful of getting something sorted there, but we’re just talking to the player.

“If somebody takes too long over a deal they won’t be coming to Luton, simple as that.”

Efforts to sign a commanding centre-half are ongoing though as Buckle added: “I never speak until I sign a player.”
