The 20-year-old has made four first-team appearances this season, all in the Checkatrade Trophy with starts against Gillingham and West Brom, taking his tally to 14 appearances for the club in total since his debut in September 2013.

The move to Clarence Park is a third loan in non-league football for Banton, having spent time at Biggleswade Town and Hemel Hempstead Town in the last two seasons.

Boss Nathan Jones told the club's official website: “Due to a lack of match time lately and to continue his development, it’s important that Zane stays sharp and has a focus to work to.

“We felt that this move to St Albans is a sensible one as he can train with us on a daily basis and we can monitor him easily in games there.”

Assistant Saints manager Lee Allinson added: "I would like to thank Nathan Jones and Luton for allowing this to happen.

"Zane is a fantastic player who I have worked with before at Biggleswade Town and I know he is very highly thought of at Luton. I’m delighted we were able to get this done just minutes before yesterday’s league deadline”

Banton is now in line to make his debut for the club in tomorrow's home game with Dartford.

Meanwhile, teenage goalkeeper Liam Gooch’s youth loan with Kettering Town has been terminated by mutual agreement and he will now finish the season with Southern Premier League side Biggleswade Town.

Gooch, who has already spent time at Hitchin Town this term, could make his debut for the Waders in their home game with Dorchester Town on Saturday.
