Cuthbert wants Luton's top three record to continue

Hatters skipper Scott Cuthbert hopes that Town's impressive record against the top three teams in League Two this term will stand them in good stead for the visit of second-placed Plymouth today.

Luton beat the Pilgrims 3-0 at Home Park on opening day, while they have also taken four points from two games against Doncaster, and drawn with Carlisle United too.

On coming up against their fellow promotion-chasers, Cuthbert said: “We’ve beaten those teams. We’ve beaten Doncaster earlier in the season, we’ve beaten Plymouth, we’ve beaten the other teams above us when we’ve had to.

“It’s not a case of beating the teams that are above us, but it’s about winning as many games as we can.

“We can only concentrate on ourselves and as long as we’re picking up wins regularly and going on runs, then the results will take care of themselves.

“We can’t fear anyone. We’ve got a belief in the changing room that we’re the best team in the league. The league table might not show that at the moment, but we certainly believe that we can match anyone on our day.

“It’s no different if we go to Doncaster away or play Plymouth at home. We fully believe that we can go and win the game.”

Although Luton go into the game trailing Carlisle by five points with just 14 matches to go, Cuthbert retains full belief his side can go up without requiring the lottery of the play-offs.

He added: “Big games come thick and fast and that’s the way you want it.

“There are only 15/16 league games to go but bring them on.

“We want to play the best teams in the league. We fancy ourselves against the best teams in the league and, if we can get as many points as we can from the teams higher up than us, then we can claw back and get closer to those automatic places.

“I’ve said it all along and I still feel that we’ll finish there (top three) come the end of the season.”
