Luton Town’s U11s travelled to Dusseldorf in Germany to compete in the LED Lenser Pfingstcup last week.
Charlie Patino and Alex Matos, who have now headed to Arsenal and Norwich City, respectively, had been scheduled to be a part of the squad, so their absence saw Luton take nine players to the seven v seven tournament.
With over 150 teams entered from the likes fo Arsenal, Liverpool, Sao Paulo, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus, Hatters were drawn in a group with Austria Wien, TSV Kottern, FC Brünninghausen and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Luton started by defeating TSV Kottern 1-0 and then followed that up with a 1-1 draw against Austria Wien.
The youngsters went on to beat both Düsseldorf and Brünninghausen 2-1 to top the group with 10 points, and set up fixtures with Swedish and Italian giants Brommapojkana and Juventus.
Town lost 1-0 to an impressive Brommapojkana side in their first game, albeit to a controversial penalty decision, meaning they had to beat Juve to qualify.
They duly delivered a 3-2 win with goals from Harvey Williams (2) and Ed McJannet, with fine displays from Freddie Newton and Gabriel Ryan in a superb giant-killing.
Up next for Luton were Borussia Dortmund, but with the Juventus game taking its told, Hatters were eventually beaten, finishing 18th in the tournament.
They then took on Brommapojkana again, winning 3-1, with Eddie Corbit delivering a passing masterclass.
