When Isaac Vassell was crudely bundled to the floor by Yeovil centre half Bevis Mugabi after just seven minutes at the weekend, there was no way Luton striker Danny Hylton was going to pass up the chance to make it 21 goals for the season.

Hatters’ leading scorer had missed his last effort from 12 yards, denied in stoppage time by Grimsby keeper James McKeown, but he grabbed the ball and proceeded to tuck his spotkick home.

Afterwards, Hylton, who added a 22nd too before the break said: Everyone misses penalties and I was gutted to miss that last penalty.

“Not because of my personal goal tally, because it would have got us three points in a tight game.

“I’m always confident of stepping back up and I’ve said to myself last few games, next time we get a penalty, I’ve told myself I knew where I was going, knew what I was doing.

“So thankfully it went in, main thing was it got us off to a good start.”

There were no signs of nerves at all when Hylton stepped up to easily beat Artur Krysiak, lofting his effort down the centre, as he knew exactly where was aiming.

The striker added: “It wasn’t meant to be a dink down the middle like the Exeter one.

“It was meant to be a little clip down the middle and hope the keeper moves.

“Nine time out of 10 they do move and thankfully he did move.

“You don’t want to step up to penalty and be thinking ‘shall I go left, shall I go right, shall I go middle, high, low?’

“In training, I tell myself ‘right, next time we get a penalty I’m going there and that’s where I’m going, I’m going to do this and I’m not going to change my mind.’

“If you do take a penalty and miss, at least you haven’t put it down to, I’ve changed my mind.

“I’ve told myself where I’m going and try to put it in there as best I can.”
