Returning centre half Scott Cuthbert was left mightily impressed with the way his side defeated Championship opponents Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 in their pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.

The Hatters, who had gone ahead in the opening minute through Jack Marriott, controlled large periods of the match against the Seagulls, limiting the visitors to just one shot on target throughout the entire 90 minutes.

Cuthbert, who came on for the final half an hour, said: “I thought we were excellent from the first whistle.

“Obviously it was a mistake from the centre back that let Jack in, but he punished them, and I thought we looked really in control right from the start.

“We conceded a bit of a sloppy goal from a set-piece, but we were really good, really impressive. Although you can’t think of it too much as it’s a pre-season game, and still only about getting minutes, we certainly were impressive.”
