Jones: It's not all about Hylton v Godden

Hatters boss Nathan Jones doesn't think Saturday's clash with Stevenage should be billed as a shoot-out between two of the league's top scorers in Danny Hylton and Matt Godden.

The pair have scored 42 goals between them this term, with Hylton’s brace against Yeovil taking him to 22 and Godden now on 22 after his double in the 3-0 win over Notts County.

Luton do have the injured Cameron McGeehan in double figures, plus Isaac Vassell and Jack Marriott on nine apiece, with Boro’s next top scorer Ben Kennedy on eight, with Jones well aware both sides possess plenty of other scoring options .

He said: “I don’t single out any players as we’ve got a few who are right at it.

“It’ll be billed as those two strikers (Hylton and Godden), but there are others on the pitch who can score and we’re hoping it’s one of ours because we’ve got four as good any strikers in the league.

“We know what we have, we know what they have, so lets get to Saturday and see where we are.”

On whether he had looked to sign Godden, who dropped out of the Football League in 2014 and had a prolific spell at Ebbsfleet before alerting the attentions of Stevenage in the summer, who snapped him up, Jones continued: “We knew about him and he’s found a good home in terms of Stevenage.

“We took one, Isaac Vassell that we think is a wonderful, wonderful gamble we’ve taken and you don’t take too many, but he (Vassell) was one we earmarked.

“We brought in Danny Hylton in the summer and also had good ones here, so we couldn’t sign everyone.

“It’s one we knew about and he’s done fantastically well. Who’s to say he would have done anywhere near as well as hed had gone to any other club in the division? So credit to Stevenage.”

Jones also confirmed that one of Stevenage’s striking options, on-loan Luton striker Josh McQuoid, won’t be allowed to play in the fixture, with Luke Gambin available for the hosts after missing last weekend’s hammering of Yeovil.

He added: “He’s (Gambin) trained fully since then, so it’s good to have him back, we just didn’t need to take any risks with him.

“There’s no injuries at all. We’re in very good form, a very good place in terms of injuries and that gives me good headaches, but ones that need to be addressed.”
