Hatters boss Nathan Jones believes it’s an exciting time for the club after it was announced that Town will submit planning application for a new stadium at Power Court during the summer.
Luton chief executive Gary Sweet announced the club’s intention to submit their plans prior to the start of the new 2016/17 football season last week and when asked about the proposals, Jones said: “The plans look absolutely fantastic, it’s a real exciting time for the club and to have now come out in the press means it’s real and ongoing.
“When we get it and when it’s all in place it will be not only a good thing for Luton Town, but a good thing for Bedfordshire and for the whole of Luton.”Nathan Jones
“When I spoke to the board and to Gary (Sweet) originally, they told me of those plans, so it gets you excited already. But then to see them in the 3D model and the CGI images I’ve seen, it looks a real exciting time.
“When we get it and when it’s all in place it will be not only a good thing for Luton Town, but a good thing for Bedfordshire and for the whole of Luton.”
On the actual designs themselves, Jones continued: “I think there’s a little bit of innovation in it in terms of what they’re trying to do with it.
“It’s not just your generic stadium, and with the retail outlets in and around it, the concert venue and so on, and the sports arena thing they have, it looks excellent and very exciting.
“It will be fantastic for the football club and also for the surrounding area, and without being disrespectful to anyone, I think the area needs it. The area needs something like that to regenerate it and think it will revitalise the whole area.”
Jones is now more than aware that he needs to deliver a football side to match the plans off the field as he added: “I think it has to move pace both on and off field, progress has to run parallel if you like.
“I’ve been trusted with trying to do the on field stuff and I think right now the people of Luton are seeing there are plans in place off the pitch, but also seeing, that things are in place on the pitch as well or I hope they are thinking we’ve made good progress.
“I wanted to make little steps, but I think we’ve taken them quickly and I feel that we’re in a good place. I feel in a good place myself and feel the squad are as well and moving forward, once we trim it and improve it and have more time to work with it, then we should be a better team as well
