Luton boss not dwelling on Boro defeat

Hatters boss Nathan Jones is refusing to dwell on his side's defeat against Stevenage on Saturday, ahead of tonight's trip to fellow promotion chasers Carlisle United.

Town fell further behind the automatic promotion places after the disappointing 2-0 reverse, but Jones is looking for his side hit back when they travel to the Cumbrians.

He said: “I’ve watched it back, clipped it out and we’ve debriefed and it was a disappointing performance from our point of view in such a big game.

“But we’re not going to dwell on that, we’ve been in good form, we’re in a good position, we just have to consolidate that, make sure we learn from that, which we will, and fortunate enough we’ve got a nice one to bounce back on Tuesday night.

“We had the better of the chances without us being nowhere near where we should have been so that’s the encouraging thing.

“If we had taken a point for example, then I would have said, ‘the performance wasn’t great, but we dug deep’.

“It’s not a disaster we’ve lost a game to a rival, but that happens in all walks of life, happens in every level of sport.

“What we have to make sure we do is dust ourselves down and make sure we go again, as it’s 11 massive games now.

“They kept a clean sheet and it’s a fantastic away performance from them so lets take nothing away from them, but it could have been a different story, it wasn’t so lets move on.”

Meanwhile, defender Stephen O’Donnell is determined that if picked, he and his team-mates will put Saturday’s poor performance right at Brunton Park.

He said: “We weren’t good enough, as a team we stick together, it’s a loss as a team and hopefully come Tuesday we’ll make amends for it.

“The gaffer picks an 11, and I feel our 11 should be better than their 11 and everyone should feel that, we’re at Luton, a massive club and we should have done better.

“There’s no excuses, as an 11 out there we didn’t perform to the best of our abilities, myself included.

“We just need to get back at it on Tuesday and hopefully if I’m selected, we need to make amends for it. It’s a very competitive squad, there could be a number of changes, but that’s not for me to look at.”

One player who is a major doubt is defender Scott Cuthbert, but O’Donnell believes Town have the squad to cope with the skipper’s expected absence, adding: “I hope he’s back fit as he’s been a big player for us this season, but again, we’ve got Johnny Mullins and Glen (Rea) and Sheez (Alan Sheehan) who are a good partnership.

“We’ve got strength in depth and shouldn’t need to rely on the same players playing every week. Scott’s played a lot of games for us and if he’s out for a couple of weeks, I hope not, but if he is, we should have enough to cope.”
