Town boss Nathan Jones hopes to have the inside track on today’s opponents Leyton Orient thanks to first team coach Kevin Nugent.
The 46-year-old was appointed to the backroom staff at Kenilworth Road after spending nine years at the Matchroom Stadium in a number of roles, including assistant manager, until leaving in January.
“We’ve got a bit of inside info if you like in terms of Kev has worked with the players, so we should know enough about Leyton Orient.”Nathan Jones
When asked if he would utilise his knowledge about the O’s, Jones said: “Massively. We’ve got a bit of inside info if you like in terms of Kev has worked with the players, so we should know enough about Leyton Orient, we won’t get any surprises if you like.
“But that can only take you so far. Kev has been brought in because I respect him, he’s a good coach, I know him very well, I can trust him, he knows the level so I get that every week from Kev.
“But it’s going to be a difficult game regardless of how much you know about that why can do. It’s individual against individual, team against team and it’s going to be a really, really difficult game, but we’re looking forward to that, want to emphasise that.”
One player who Jones is well aware of is Orient striker Jay Simpson who has scored 23 goals this term.
However, the boss wasn’t focusing his efforts purely on stopping the division’s leading scorer, as he said: “We make sure we stop Leyton Orient doing what Leyton Orient do and that’s how we win the game.
“If we stop Jay Simpson, they still have other individuals, they have a Premier League midfielder in their manager, so they have individuals. But we don’t speak about individuals, we speak about try and stop Leyton Orient and how we can try and impose ourselves on them.
“Yes they have good quality and that is going to be important to the game, but we have to demonstrate our quality.
Meanwhile, on the trip to the promotion hopefuls, striker Jack Marriott added: “They’ve got the top goalscorer in the league and he’s been on fire.
“They were doing really well earlier in the season, they were up there for a while, maybe they’ve dropped off a little bit but they’re not going to be an easy team.”
