Patient Town pleases Griffiths

Hatters defender Scott Griffiths felt his side did well to keep their patience during Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Alfreton Town, writes Mike Simmonds.

The free-scoring hosts were left frustrated in the opening period of the game, as they failed to register a shot in the opening 30 minutes.

But that all changed when Luke Guttridge fired home as Town eased to their 13th successive home win in the second period.

Griffiths said: “Before the game, we said we’re not going to win five and sixes every week.

“We’ve played extremely well and been lucky to do so recently, but we do have to be patient.

“It might be a case of 1-0 in the last minute, but as long as we carry on pushing, keep our attacking momentum up and be strong together as a team, it will come.”

Town’s fans never once wavered in their support either, which was pleasing for Griffiths to witness as in season’s gone by, their frustration has spilled over to the players.

He continued: “I think we’ve got the hard work of the team and a bit of Ronnie (Henry) early on the season to thank for that.

“The fans have been tremendous for us. It’s like having a 12th player on the pitch.”

On the delaying tactics of Alfreton, he added: “They’re a strong side, a little bit too eager in a lot of the challenges.

“The referee I feel could have done a bit more for us in terms of Benno (Paul Benson) being sandwiched for every header he went for and there were a few naughty little challenges too.

“But overall, once we pulled our finger out after the first 20 minutes, we pushed out and got stronger.”
