Defender Scott Griffiths is determined to prove himself once more for Luton after winning his place back against former club Dagenham & Redbridge at the weekend.

The 29-year-old had missed four league games recently as manager John Still decided to rest the full back after his wife suffered a difficult birth of their first child last month.

“I was chomping at the bit to get back, flying in training and really putting everything into the games.”

When asked if he felt he had needed the break away from the game, Griffiths said: “Maybe for the first two games that I missed, but after that, I was more than ready.

“I was chomping at the bit to get back, flying in training and really putting everything into the games.

“When Pottsy (Dan Potts) came in, he did well, did a good job and I’m just glad to have been given another chance to prove myself again as I’m always pleased to be playing football.

“The gaffer felt I needed a bit of a rest before, but chose to put me in and it worked for him which is good for me and good for the team.”

With Potts playing the four games in Griffiths’ absence, it has made the ex-Peterborough and Chesterfield defender even more eager to impress as he continued: “It’s never comfortable having competition but it is also very good for you.

“Because although you do try hard, you give that little bit extra as you want to do better, want to do well.

“Even if the other guy gets in front of you at any point, you say ‘well done, you’ve done well’ and just carry on doing what you’re doing and hopefully earn your place back.”

Although back in the side now, the defender wasn’t taking anything for granted going forward as he said: “I don’t ever expect anything, I just do what I need to do and hopefully the gaffer will see fit to keep me in the squad.

“It’s not going to come without determination and hard work, but it would be nice if I am considered for the next game as well.”
