Gottfrieds do like to be beside the seaside

Minigolf round-up

Richard and Emily Gottfried made the trip to Sussex to compete in the seventh annual Castle Golf World Crazy Golf Championships.

At the Sea Front Adventure Golf Complex in Hastings, Richard made the six-round cut before finishing in 17th place.

Emily, meanwhile, who missed the cut, came fifth in the 12-strong field that contested the Women's World Championship which was run parallel to the main event.

Bishop's Stortford's Keith Kellard won the event ahead of Brighton's Peter Emmerson and Finland's John Mittler who were second and third respectively.

Kellard took the title with a five-under-par total of 247, 17 shots ahead of Gottfried who recorded rounds of 35, 40, 35, 41, 37, 37 and 39 for a 12-over-par 264.

Emily shot rounds of 42, 41, 38, 39, 37 and 50 to finish on 247 (+31) after six rounds.

After the event, a delighted Richard said: "It was a great weekend of crazy golf and I am pleased to say that I didn't have a single bad round.

"Last year I had a nightmare in my fifth round, but I've learned from my mistakes.

"I also enjoyed the miniaturegolfer.com competition on the Friday and it was great to get third place there."

On the Friday, Richard took part in the www.miniaturegolfer.com 'Nine Best' Crazy Golf Championship to celebrate the ninth year of the miniaturegolfer.com website.

In the nine-hole event, Richard tied for third place with Kent's Sean Homer on one-over-par, three shots behind Emmerson. Anthony Pope was second, one shot behind the winner.

Next up for the Gottfrieds is the season ending BMGA Kent Open in Margate.
