Hatters opt for Prickett

Luton Town appoint new youth team coach

Promotion for Alan Neilson to Hatters first team coach on a permanent basis means that Luton Town have appointed a new youth coach.

Martin Prickett, 29, pictured above, has been moved up from the club's Centre of Excellence staff after beating off competition from over 60 applicants for the role.

A young goalkeeper at Arsenal, he went on to play for American Major League Soccer side Dallas before injury finished his career prematurely at 20, when his arm was snapped while playing for Des Moines.

After graduating as a teacher, Prickett went on to work with Arsenal's U18 team by delivering their educational programme. He has been at Luton for two years and also had a spell at Watford.

Prickett, originally from St Albans, said: "It's something I have always wanted and been chasing since I stopped playing. I'm just very pleased that with a lot of dedication to the club I've been able to progress on and be promoted internally."

And he is hopeful he can help some of Luton's up-and-coming youngsters make it to the very top.

He continued: "Obviously we want to get as many boys through to play professionally as we can. My job is to help them to be the best they can be.

"We need to get back in the League as quickly as possible so they get the best platform possible to show themselves so that when they do break through, should they be the next Matty Upson, they can get into the Premiership."
