He's fit and hoping to get right back in the first team reckoning

Asafu-Adjaye looks forward to hometown clash

Fully-fit right-back Ed Asafu-Adjaye is hoping that he will be able to force his way into manager Richard Money's plans for the rest of the season.

The reliable defender has been out of favour since recovering from a niggly injury, but with stand-in right-back Adam Newton currently out with a slight hamstring problem, he is looking to make the right-back spot his own.

Asafu-Adjaye, 23, said: "No niggles, I'm fully fit.

"It's been a combination of things. Maybe one niggle at maybe a bad time for me.

"Credit to Newts.

"I've been a bit out of favour and it was good to get my opportunity."

And he is looking forward to the potentially massive game against his home-town club, Stevenage Borough, at Broadhall Way on Saturday, April 3.

If things pan out the way the Hatters hope that game could play a pivotal role in who will win the Blue Square Premier title, and with it promotion to the Football League.

Asafu-Adjaye continued: "It's a massive game. If we can take the three points off of them there it closes the gap right down.

"If they lose that game in hand it closes it right down."

But he also knows Town must improve defensively, where before Saturday's game with Wrexham they hadn't had a clean sheet since September 12 last year.

He added: "I'm not too sure what it is when we play at home.

"I don't feel the team is nervous or anxious in any way. We just seem to leave ourselves open sometimes for the counter-attack when we are pushing, pushing, pushing. We don't need to be more reserved but more aware of the counter-attack.

"Away from home we seem to play differently, get it out and play it forward. When we are at home we tend to overplay."
