Four Luton students are sporting black T-shirts with the legend ‘Young rugby ambassadors’ on the back.
The quartet is raring to go after being appointed to raise the profile of the 2015 Rugby World Cup and encourage more youngsters to take part in the sport.
They are Bryony Lewin-Playford, 20, and Connor Sibley, 22, from the University of Bedfordshire and Luton Sixth Form College pupils Ryan Healy and Mitchell Denyer, both 17.
Each ruby club in the country has been invited to provide four young ambassadors to help host the event.
Bryony said: “I feel really proud to be representing Luton Rugby Club. It didn’t really sink in until we went to a conference with everyone else and I realised how special it was.” Ryan added: “It’s a great privilege and it will a great experience. We’ll be role models for our peers.”
Mitchell said: “Rugby’s such a fun sport and it doesn’t just stop on the pitch. It teaches you life skills – respecting the referee transfers into how you treat people generally.”
Bryony, who’s keen to get more women into the game, agreed: “It helps with self discipline.
