JKL continue to impress at National Grand Prix

Japanese Karate Luton (JKL) students travelled to Berkshire to compete in the second National Gima Ha Grand Prix recently.

Youngest competitor Lucas Lam shone out, taking top spot in kata and third in kumite, while newest team member Sahamaktt Salmon came second in kata and second in kumite, with younger sister Makatt Salmon third in kumite.

Meriem Hammoun took her second gold medal of the Grand Prix in kumite, while World and European champion Lisa Taylor claimed top spot in the senior ladies kata and kumite, with Rachel Spiller fighting her way into second place.

JKL dojo captain Cameran Davis showed determination and focus and came second in kata and third in kumite.

Jason Lam, the youngest in his division, was in fine form, coming third in kata and battled into fourth in kumite.

Sensei Sabrina joined Lisa Taylor and Fleur Harris in mixed senior team kata for the first time as they battled to the finish, taking second.

Chief instructor Sabrina Daniels said: “I am so proud of all JKL team competitors, they all showed team spirit as all their hard work and commitment in between school/ college exams have paid off.”
