Green earn first SSML Premier Division victory

SSML Premier Division: Crawley Green 2 Cockfosters 0

A goal in each half helped Crawley Green record their first Premier Division win of the season with a gutsy 2-0 triumph against Cockfosters on Saturday.

In the opening 15 minutes, Cockfosters had efforts from Jay Rolfe and Cameron Ferguson saved by Green keeper Dean Bull, before the hosts came close when JJ Billy set up Reece Green for an effort at goal.

Back came the visitors though, with Ferguson off target from Jonny Sexton’s cross, Bull having to turn Ben Spaul’s attempt behind and Ferguson’s corner headed over by Carl Resch.

Crawley started to get a footing in the game though after half an hour, as Green’ and Tom Barnett both fired over, before they took the lead with seven minutes left until the break, when Sam Peverall’s corner was converted by Sam Pemberton.

In the second period, Crawley started brightly and after 20 seconds, Peverall lashed in a drive from fully 40 yards which cannoned off the bar, while Billy and Green were also close.

Spaul’s free kick was easy for Bull, while Jerry Mata missed a very presentable chance and was made to pay on 75 minutes as Billy’s cross shot was turned in by Green.

The goalscorer almost had a second, shooting off target, as Cockfosters threatened a consolation, Taylor Wild hitting the crossbar,

However, a resolute Crawley held on and now travel to London Colney tomorrow evening.
