A first half penalty by Jack Hutchinson gave Dunstable Town a dogged 1-0 win at newly-promoted Kings Langley on Tuesday night, making it two wins out of two for the Blues.

The hosts had former Town players Dean Hitchcock, Kyle Anthony, Stuart Deaton and Ryan Plowright in their squad, while Blues were without injured duo Jack Smith and Gary Wharton, as they handed a debut to Wilson Ferriera, with new signing from St Albans City Daniel Green on the bench.

A feisty encounter saw visiting keeper Jamie Head produce an outstanding performance, as Langley started well, Ollie Cox’s effort going wide.

David Longe-king was cautioned too, as Dunstable didn’t threaten too much, bar a weak header from Ferreira, until on 22 minutes, Alex Cathline was fouled in the and Hutchinson converted the penalty.

Cathline had the ball in the net himself, only to be adjudged offside, but Kings looked for a comeback, Plowright’s shot held by Head.

A poor clearance from home keeper Xavi Comas almost let in the prowling Hutchinson, while both he and Cathline had shots blocked for the visitors.

Langley rallied again and Cox saw his effort deflected away, while Dunstable finished the stronger, Danny Talbot going close.

After the break, Dunstable replaced Cathline with Connor Calcutt, while Green came on for Talbot and Taishan Griffith took over from Ferreira.

Connor Toomey was denied by the bar from a free kick, while Head made an important stop as Dunstable defended well, although they were fortunate to see Deaton fluff his lines from a corner.

When the Blues did get forward it was with solo runs from the likes of Hutchinson and indeed Adam Pepera, before Plowright missed a golden chance against his former side, hammering over from close range.
