Talbot hopes Blues take Oxford win into new season

The Blues defeated National League South side Oxford City 2-1 at Creasey Park on Tuesday night, thanks to two goals from Alex Cathline.

Talbot took to the pitch in the second half and he was chuffed with the performance of his players as he said: “I was really impressed, we played against a good Conference South side who did well last season.

“We lost ourselves a bit in the second half, but it was even more impressive how we pulled ourselves together and saw the game out.”

Like most clubs during the close season, Dunstable have seen a lot of players depart, as well as the arrival of new faces.

With a 5-0 defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge and a 4-3 loss to St Albans, it seemed as if the side were struggling to gel, but wins against Egham Town and now Oxford City has given fans a reason to be more optimistic going into the first game of the season at home to Cambridge City.

Talbot added: “There’s a team effort there, they’ve put in five or six weeks of hard work in pre-season, they’ve gradually got better as time has gone on and there’s a good spirit there.

“The good thing is we have steadily improved with each game and it is nice to go into Saturday’s game against Cambridge with a win.

“I always got told from a young age, don’t take too much notice of pre-season results, if you win every game in pre-season, it doesn’t mean you’re going to win the league.”
