Luton AC duo star in Bedford
Clorley comes second with McDonnell fourth
Dynamic Luton AC duo Daniel Clorley and John McDonnell produced some storming runs to finish second and fourth at Bedford International Stadium in the English U20 National Championships on Sunday.
Both runners qualified through the heats of the 1,500m, before lining up in the final against Britain's top young athletes, including Europe's leading junior Niall Brooks of Sale Harriers.
Clorley and McDonnell were both in contention entering the final straight and, in a close-run finish, Simon Horsfield of Manchester won with Clorley edging Brooks out by the smallest of margins for second place in 3.47mins.
McDonnell finished a fine fourth in a season's best time of 3.50mins.
Clorley now faces a nervous wait to see if he will be selected to represent Great Britain at the European U20 Championships in Serbia in July.
Former 1,500m world record holder and TV presenter Steve Cram presented Clorley with his silver medal.
