Hatters striker Andre Gray deserves every ounce of speculation he gets over the summer according to team-mate Jake Howells.
The forward completed a stunning campaign for the Hatters, winning the division’s golden boot after netting 30 goals.
Gray couldn’t give a definitive answer as to whether he would be at Kenilworth Road next season during the civic celebrations on Sunday, and although Howells wants him to stay, he knows the former Hinckley frontman will be in demand.
Howells said: “I want him to do what’s right for his career, because he’s one of my best mates at the club.
“I think he deserves every bit of praise, every bit of speculation, but obviously us, every player, the management, every fan wants him to stay, of course they do.
Striker Paul Benson, who himself has been the subject of a big move when he left Dagenham & Redbridge for Charlton, said: “You always want your best players to stay and Andre’s one of our best players, so it goes without saying, I’d like him to be at the club next year.
“But also I understand that players want to play as high as they possibly can.”
