Town’s steadfast fans showed their true colours at Woking according to Luton’s players and management, writes Mark Wood.
A lot was made of an incident at the weekend when skipper Ronnie Henry clashed with a member of the crowd following their 3-2 comeback victory over Lincoln City.
He received plenty of backing from team-mates and Luton supporters, and 731 Hatters fans turned up to roar Luton on to a 4-0 win at Kingfield on Tuesday night.
And Town’s travelling army of supporters were applauded both before and after the game by Town’s players.
On the pre-match gesture, boss John Still said: “I thought it was something we should do to show our appreciation to the fantastic support that we do have.
“I think it’s been well documented that it only takes one person to have a negative thought, and sometimes that’s the voice that you hear the most.
“I think the supporters here today probably showed what sort of supporters we do have at this football club and long may it continue.
“I’m pleased for everybody and pleased for me as well!”
Returning defender Alex Lacey was delighted to have been able to repay Luton’s supporters, scoring his first goal for the club in the triumph.
He said: “It’s fantastic the amount of support this club gets at home and away. I think seven-odd thousand at home is great for this league and the fans have been loyal to us and it’s great to repay them.”
Keeper Mark Tyler was delighted by the backing they received and was in no doubt how important it is having the fans behind them, especially with so many young players in the team.
He added: “We need them, especially at home. We’ve got a lot of young players in the side.
“Us experienced ones, we know how to handle it. Hopefully if we put in a few more performances like that they’ll definitely be on our side.
“It’s very intimidating playing at Kenilworth Road. When the fans are with us like last year the Wolves game was unbelievable, the play-off games, once they’re behind us I wouldn’t like to play in front of them, especially as an away team.
“So hopefully they can look at the results of the last three games and there will be plenty there a week Saturday.”
