The summer signing has had a mixed start to his Luton career, as he was often in and out of the side under previous boss John Still.

However, he has started all five of Jones’ games since he took over, with the Hatters boss quick to confirm the former Leyton Orient defender would be his captain as well.

Cuthbert said: “He’s just given me confidence as the first thing he did was make me captain and gave me confidence to go and play.

“It was nice that he backed me and I feel personally that I’m showing it on the park now a bit more often and a bit more frequently.

“I just hope I can keep on doing that, but the manager’s been different class for all the boys.

“He came in with a real spark and a real enthusiasm about the place and it’s just about feeding off it.”

Although he’s only been in charge for just over a month, there’s a clear vision to the way Hatters are setting up under Jones, with the centre halves now splitting at goal kicks and being encouraged to pass out from the back.

Cuthbert continued: “That’s something that everyone has to adapt to and that’s what happens when a new manager comes in, he comes in with a new style.

“All the players need to adapt and I think we’re doing that and will only get better as he knows the way he wants to play, he’s dead clear on the way he wants us to play.

“We work on it every day, we’ve got a way of playing and we’ll stick to it and he won’t change for anyone, our philosophy won’t change for anyone.

“It’s still early days, the manager’s only been in for four or five weeks, so we’ve just got to keep doing it and it will only get better that’s for sure.”
