The teenage centre half, who joined Luton as an U11, was part of the successful Hatters U18 side who did superbly to reach the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals last season.

He went with Town on their pre-season trip to Hungary and played the second half of the 9-0 win at Bedford Town on Saturday, producing an impressive display when partnering fellow youth product Frankie Musonda at the back

On whether Famewo would follow in the footsteps of Alex Atkinson, Liam Gooch and Tyreeq Bakinson in agreeing his first senior deal since Jones took over in January, the boss said: “We might have a bit of news for you on that one, I’ll have to check everyone’s done and dusted, but hopefully we’re looking to tie him down to a pro contact.

“It was something we spoke about the end of last season, seeing how he would come back and so on, and he’s come back in real good shape so we’ve looked to kick that on.

“I’m not sure it’s final yet, but we feel we’re quite close to a deal for Akin.

“Him and Frankie (Musonda) are both similar, both natural and it shows why the youth team did so well.

“They’ve got naturally defensive abilities, both hungry, both want to do well, both young, athletic, strong, have a little bit about them, it’s good, it’s what we do.”
