Hatters are starting to paint an attractive image under Jones

Returning centre half Scott Cuthbert believes his side are starting to show supporters just what the new season could bring under manager Nathan Jones.

The Hatters saw off Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 in their pre-season encounter on Saturday , with a slick performance that oozed class from the very first whistle.

They limited their opponents to just one shot on target all afternoon, while playing some hugely attractive football themselves, attacking with real verve as Cuthbert said: “The manager has drilled that into us from the moment he came in but especially since the start of pre-season, that’s the way he wants us to play.

“He knows what he wants and he’s going to get it from us whether we like it or not.

“He’s brilliant on the training ground and everything he puts into training, him and Paul Hart, it’s certainly showing out there.”

Jack Marriott, who notched his fourth and fifth goals of the pre-season, the opening one inside the very first minutes, echoed his captain’s thoughts.

He said: “They (Brighton) missed out last year, just, and they’ve got a very good set-up.

“They’ve got incredible facilities and they’ve got some talented players.

“We were always going to start fast, that’s the way we want to start, get hold of the game and we did that.

“It’s definitely something we work on and we want to do because, if people come to Kenilworth Road, they’ve got to be prepared for us coming out the blocks and at them.

“Hopefully that’s an image that we paint for ourselves.

“We had quite a lot of the ball, we moved it well, we passed it well, we broke lines, we got in a couple of times and it was good.

“It was a good workout for us and it’s good to see that stuff we’re working on is coming off on the pitch.”

Town’s style of play does allow the full backs greater license to get forward, and it’s something Dan Potts is relishing, after his goal against Bedford Town recently.

He said: “I think it just shows how adventurous we want to be, the positive play we want and the manager wants.

“I’m not knocking it, as from my point of view, he’s definitely told me to be positive and to get forward.

“It just goes to show that everyone’s tuning in on the training pitch and buying into what we want to do and all coming together.”

Cuthbert is fully aware though, that it’s what Town produce in their League Two campaign that will matter though, adding: “It’s all right doing it in pre-season and getting everyone optimistic, we really need to follow that up with a positive start to the season which I’m confident we’ll be able to do.

“We looked really in control right from the start and although you can’t think of it too much as it’s a pre-season game, and still only about getting minutes, we certainly were impressive throughout the game.”
