The Luton chief opted to drop Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu to the bench in place of Jack Marriott for the clash at Adams Park, although was always going to use the pace and power of the former West Ham United youngster in the second period.

Paul Benson and Paddy McCourt were both introduced after the break too and played their part in yet another away win as Jones said: “We know we’ve got a big squad and a strong squad and everyone has to contribute, we rely on that.

“So when they come on they are ready to change the game and I thought Benno (Paul Benson) when he came on was absolutely outstanding.

“Pelly’s not used to playing this amount of football and we’ve demanded on him for three games now.

“He’s put in a real shift and he just looked jaded in the game the other day (against Yeovil), he had no spark about him, so we spoke to him and he kind of agreed to be honest, which is nice, so made the job easier.

“We thought Jack might give us that and we told Pelly to be ready, because we don’t have subs here, we have game-changers, and Pelly came on and he was a proper, proper livewire, as all three of them contributed.”

Meanwhile, Jones reserved special praise for Craig Mackail-Smith who put in a terrific display on the left flank, as the boss added: “I don’t like praising individuals particularly in such an outstanding team performance, but Mackail-Smith was outstanding.

“He got us up the pitch with endeavour, that was the Mackail Smith of old. I’m just disappointed he didn’t score and that would have capped off a proper, proper performance.

“He’s done so much for the team, he’s playing slightly out of position, we’ve asked him to do a job for us, and he did. I thought he was immense, absolutely immense.”
