Although the Luton chief has made six signings so far this summer, with Isaac Vassell and Lewis Kinsella both currently on trial too, he remains determined to add in a certain area.

Although not saying which role the new player would fill, Jones said: “We have one position that we need to strengthen on, that won’t change, regardless.

“We need one position filled, which if we fill that position then we’re kind of done, as that’s the only thing we’re short of.

“The squad will be done by then, we won’t be looking to add any more after that.

“We’ve got a couple of decisions to make on one or two, as the club’s been excellent with allowing me to go out and get and to strengthen to a certain extent and we are almost there.

“If all our injured ones weren’t injured, we might be done now, but due to the fact that we have those injuries to certain players then we’re just going to need to strengthen in the medium to long term.”

Jones has had to switch his attentions elsewhere in recent weeks after seeing his top two targets opt for moves elswhere as when when asked if he had got all the players he went for, the boss added said: “We’re not far off, we’ve had to compromise on a few and I’m just waiting to replace the one we tried to bring in.

“There’s two we’ve tried to bring in have gone elsewhere, both were the same position, our first choice and second choice to get permanent in that position we didn’t quite get, but that’s the only ones.

“As we went after Danny (Hylton), we got him, went after Johnny Mullins we got him, Christian Walton, Glen Rea, Alan Sheehan, we did early.

“Jordan Cook became available and I declared my interest in him a while ago, but he had a lot of options and wanted to meet a lot of people, so I was pleased with what we did.

“We’ve managed to secure, not quite far off everyone, but it’s been a good recruitment and it’s a credit to the club, a credit to the recruitment department, and as well, me.”
