Hatters have added three players from League One sides in Alan Sheehan (Bradford City) and Oxford duo Danny Hylton and Johnny Mullins all penning two year deals.

Meanwhile, Zane Banton, Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Jack Marriott have agreed contract extensions too, while with Cameron McGeehan and Olly Lee both signing for the long-term last season as well, Jones believes the club are in a strong position.

He said: “We’ve managed to secure ones that have been sought after because Cameron, Pelly Ruddock had opportunities to leave the club .

“But they chose to stay with us and that shows the strength of the club and what the board have allowed me to do and Gary Sweet (chief executive) as well.

“We’ve been strong, we’ve shown our strength this transfer window in terms of that and it shows that we’re hopefully trying to build something here with players from a higher level we are recruiting, not just for one year, quick fixes, but two years.

“It’s good to secure the likes of Pelly and Zane under contract along with the ones that triggered new deals in terms of Jack Marriott, Cameron McGeehan and Olly Lee a bit earlier.

“It’s meant we didn’t lose any players in the summer that we didn’t want to lose.

“A lot of clubs in our league lose players that go out of contract, important players, but we didn’t lose any of our players so we’re very proud of that.

“That shows the strength that we’ve managed to keep hold of our players and that’s a credit to the board and what we’re trying to build here.”

Jones also felt the fact that the likes of Sheehan, Hylton and Mullins were all prepared to drop down a level shows the kind of squad he is trying to put together, adding: “They’re three excellent signings and all of the ones we’ve added so far are from a higher league as they all believe in the vision, all believe in what we’re trying to do here.

“They didn’t feel it was a backward step if you like that others would say.

“The signing of Alan Sheehan was important for us because of what he brings to us, and then we were able to add two promotion winners in terms of Danny Hylton and Johnny Mullins who we feel are excellent additions to the squad.

“I’ve been an admirer of Danny for a while and it was great to get him.

“I know what we’re going to get from him, he knows the level, he’s experienced at the level, he’ll fit into how we do things excellently.

“Then we were doubly pleased to add Johnny Mullins as well because of the experience he brings.

“I know him from his Rotherham days and he was Oxford captain for a lot of the time last year.

“To have those two strengthen the squad, we’re delighted to have them.”
