The Town chief gave a passionate send-off to the 1,298 Town fans at Adams Park, showing some genuine unbridled emotion, after Cameron McGeehan’s stunner sealed the victory.

Speaking afterwards, Jones said: “They turned out again in force, what great fans we’ve got, unbelievable, now we want to give them a home performance like we’re giving them away wins.

“They’re going to need to be patient as well, because we’re trying to build stuff, but they were absolutely outstanding, outsung people here, filled that end.

“It’s a great club, that’s why I’m here, that’s why I want to be here because I love fans who are passionate, love fans who demand for their players.

“They gave them a performance and second half they’ll go away and they’ll say that Luton Town gave us a performance and they did. They should be proud of them, because we’re proud of them.”

Captain Scott Cuthbert was also pleased to send the Hatters fans home happy after a return of just one point from the previous two games.

He continued: “One thing you notice when you sign for this club is the fans are fanatical, they travel everywhere and in their numbers.

“So it was great to give them something to smile about on a Saturday night.”

Meanwhile, match-winner McGeehan hopes the supporter give his side time to fully adapt new manager Nathan Jones’ philosophy, adding: “It’s tough for the fans because before we possibly played a bit more direct and they wanted us to play a bit more football.

“Now we’re playing a bit more football, fans have got to be patient with us.

“We know it’s going to be tough, but they’ve been great all season, we’re working every day as we want to win games.”
