McGeehan is hungry for more despite reaching double figures

The 20-year-old netted a wonderful long range effort for his 10th of the campaign as he moved further clear of Jack Marriott (on eight) as Town’s leading scorer.

However, McGeehan is eying up even an even larger tally now as he said: “I want to score more, double figures is good, but I believe I can score more. It’s my first season playing fully, as I’ve only really had half seasons for the past seasons.

“If I can repeat the form I’ve had this season, I’ve scored 10 so far, and keep trying, keep working hard, chances will come, goals will come.

“But I want to do better as a team, I want my all-round game to be better as well, because I think that’s been lacking sometimes when I’ve tried to go for goal.”

The former Norwich had been stuck on nine since netting the penalty spot at Exeter in December, some six games ago.

He admitted it had weighed on his mind slightly, particularly in the 1-1 draw against Yeovil last Tuesday, when he sent a number of attempts wide from distance.

He continued: “I think psychologically it’s tough because you want to get to a certain target which I set myself at the beginning of the season, but as you get closer and closer then you start snatching at things.

“As you saw the other night, I was a bit greedy with a few chances so I’ve put that out of my mind, as I felt like I had to for the better of the team and not worry about a personal tally.

“I just need to work hard and goals will come like they did, so that’s where I am at the minute, as I want the team to start doing well.”

McGeehan insisted his scoring run wasn’t down to luck either, with work on the training ground paying off.

He said: “I’ve been practicing it and practicing my shooting every day.

“I’m working hard with the people who do shooting with us, Andy Awford, who’s been great all season with me, Kevin Nugent, who has come in as well.

“The way the gaffer plays, we’re going to get a lot more chances in and around the box, so it’s perfect for me.”

On the goal itself, that arrived five minutes before half time, McGeehan said: “It was a tough first 20, so we needed a bit of magic to get us kicked on and luckily, the ball fell to me and I scored.

“It was a good strike, so I was happy to get the goal for the team. Once I’ve hit it and seen it dipping, I’ve hit a few in row Z at Kenilworth Road, so it was nice for one to nestle in.

“It was good to score before half time, as that changed the game round a little bit.

“We managed to come out and it was a battle, it wasn’t a very nice game and we know we can play better than that, but sometimes you’ve got to come to places like Wycombe and play like that.”
