O'Donnell disappointed by Town's display during friendly defeat

Hatters full back Stephen O'Donnell admitted there was a tinge of disappointment about his side's 1-0 defeat at Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, despite it just being a pre-season friendly.

O’Donnell played for around an hour, with Luton struggling to really get going against their National League opponents, never over-exerting home keeper Grant Smith.

The defender said: “It’s always good to try and get the minutes in, but I’m disappointed with the performance as I thought we could have passed it a little bit better.

“The weather was about 30 degrees though, I was dying out there, I’m not used to that! But we didn’t create the tempo that we had on the previous Saturday even though it was against a different opposition,

“It’s pre-season though and Rome wasn’t built in a day, so I think there’s plenty of things are going in place that can set us in good stead for the start of the season.

“We worked really hard and it was good to get the 50, 60 minutes and hopefully build again to Saturday (against Brighton) if I’m playing and then hopefully get a full game in before the start of the season.”

On how pre-season has gone for O’Donnell, who is now starting his second campaign at Kenilworth Road having joined from Partick Thistle last term, the 24-year-old said: “It’s been good, I always tend to come back in relatively good shape, so I’ve done that again this season.

“Just hopefully from a personal point of view I can hit the ground running and if selected come Plymouth away I can build from there.

“Because it was a bit of a slow start for myself last season, but as a team I think we’re all looking good, training is nice and sharp and hopefully we can kick on come the first game of the season.”
