Powerful on-loan West Ham United player Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu is looking to challenge for a place in Town’s midfield after impressing in central defence in Saturday’s goalless draw at Staines Town, writes Mark Wood.
The 20-year-old formed an impromptu partnership at the back with fellow new Port Vale loan signing Joe Davis as they were rarely troubled by 10-man Swans.
Mpanzu revealed: “I joined on Friday, we trained Friday and met Joe on Friday and it was good to get a clean sheet, I’ve just known Joe for one day, so it was good.”
Mpanzu mixed some solid defending with good distribution and admitted he would like to play further up the pitch.
