Challney Girls School was the venue for the annual U11 Luton Schools Hockey Festival earlier this month.
With nine teams and more than 85 children taking part, two places in the county competition in March 2016 were up for grabs.
The children’s standard of hockey and sportsmanship were a credit to them as they battled for the coveted title of Luton Schools champions.
The group stages were very close, but the final placings saw Sacred Heart Primary School against Bushmead Primary School in one semi-final and Pirton Hill Primary A versus Pirton Hill B team in the other.
Sacred Heart narrowly beat Bushmead 1-0 and Pirton Hill A came out on top with a close 3-2 triumph over Pirton Hill B.
The third place play-off between Bushmead and Pirton Hill B teams was again a tough encounter as Pirton Hill claimed third courtesy of a 1-0 win.
The final then saw Pirton Hill initially dominate against Sacred Heart as they moved in front, but Heart didn’t give up, fighting back to level.
With extra time to play, both teams worked hard, although it was Pirton Hill who found the net, winning 4-1, to become champions as both sides now go through to represent Luton in the County Championships.

>> Luton Town Ladies went down 3-1 to St Albans City at the weekend.
The hosts had made a confident start, moving 1-0 in front when Emma Whitehall found Rachel Shadbolt who showed great awareness to set up Charlotte Dunham and she beat the keeper.
However, this goal seemed to wake St Albans up as they broke away to level and had the lead after an error in the Luton defence.
Despite Town dominating in the second period, City scored again, with Whitehall named as the star player.
Tax Ferdous bagged a hat-trick as the IIs beat Bedford 3-1 in a friendly.
Luton’s men’s IIs lost out 3-0 to St Albans Vs, while the IIIs went down 2-1 at home to Hertford IVs.
