The visitors were first to get points on the board with the opening try, only for Dees to quickly hit back.

Josh Klymyszyn spread the ball to Pete Thompson, who played a clever one-two with Luke Ashton, allowing Thompson to put Matt Reed over for a try.

It appeared as if the hosts had taken the lead moments later when Thompson’s through ball was claimed by Max Thorne.

He beat a few players and was clear to put down for a try, however, the referee disallowed the score, bring play back for an Oakham penalty.

In the second half, Oakham kicked a penalty to lead 8-5, while Dunstablians brought on Nathan Dominique and David Tuffen.

The visitors then moved 16-5 in front as they added two more penalties, before quickly scoring another try too.

Dees were to enjoy a great five minute spell where they played some impressive rugby and some relentless pressure allowed Kevin Boland to kick a penalty.

Oakham missed the chance to extend the advantage, failing with a penalty as Dees tried to look for a way back into the game.

However, Dave Marshall’s side spent the final few minutes defending and preventing the opposition from claiming any more points.

They looked to break one last time with Thorne down the wing, but the ball went into touch.

Stand-out performances were from Scott Oliver and Dominique, who both made big tackles and had good defensive performances.
