The visitors won 16-10 when the sides met earlier in the season, but Dees got off to a terrific start, as the returning Kevin Boland scoring his side’s first try.

Oadby were working possession from side-to-side but Boland nabbed a smart interception.

After snatching the ball in mid-air, he ran half the length of the pitch to put down between the posts and Peter Thompson added the extras.

The visitors then applied relentless pressure which resulted in them scoring their first try shortly.

After a forceful drive, they broke and sent the ball out wide, where they were able to put down in the corner.

Oadby had the majority of possession in the first-half, as they were the more dominant force in the scrums and at the line-outs, but they were unable to claim further points due to some dogged defending.

The second half saw the introduction of James Ellershaw, who last featured and scored in Dees’ cup victory over Biggleswade back in December, but has only just regained full fitness.

Another returning player, Ashley Warren, entered the fray at the break.

Dees looked to utilise their powerful forward Ellershaw, by handing him the ball and acting as support whilst he battered his way through the Oadby defence.

However, each move eventually broke down, with several soft penalties conceded through frustration. The transgressions proved costly, as Oadby took the lead by slotting two successive kicks.

The Bidwell Boys left it late to find their second-wind in the final 10 minutes, as they went all out in attack.

Matt Reed and Jordan Warner enjoyed success down the wings, but couldn’t quite make it over the line.

Dees travel to Oakham on Saturday.
