Double delight for Luton at 30th Thurrock festival

Luton U9s and U8s both lifted silverware at Thurrock’s 30th anniversary rugby festival.

The U9s wasted no time finding their stride with a 20-15 victory over Eton Manor as tries came from a Farrell Bennett brace, plus Adina Hunter and Lewis Read.

Their second match saw them beat Hertford 20-10 via a Tio Bankole brace and tries from Leo Lyons and Toby Hunt.

Next up was Blackheath who were also dispatched 25-5, with Callum Corley-Doyle bagging a double, supported by tries from Cian Llewellyn,

Ryan Swaine and Bennett Luton’s attacking play came to the fore against Chelmsford with a 45-10 win, as Corley-Doyle ran in four tries, Lyons getting a hat-trick, along with Hunt touching down.

The last pool game saw Luton beat Brentwood 15-5, with Hunt, Corley-Doyle and Lyons all crossing the white wash.

In the final against Thurrock they won 30-5. Tries came from a Lyons brace along with Hunt, Corley-Doyle, Bennett and Bankole, which saw Swaine lift the cup.

Luton U8s played some superb rugby against some extremely strong opposition, none of whom they had tested their skills against before.

With teams including Thurrock, Brentwood, Upminster, Blackheath, Benfleet and Hertford, Luton disposed of Eton Manor in the semis to go on and clinch victory against Braintree.
