Solid opening for Gottfried
2010 BMGA season gets underway
Minigolf
RICHARD Gottfried made a good start to the 2010 BMGA season with an eighth place finish at the BMGA National Open at Star City in Birmingham.
On the Lost Hut Trail course, Gottfried recorded scores of 35, 37 and 28 for a 54-hole tally of an eight-under-par 100 which was 13 shots behind winner Chris Harding who posted a 21-under 87.
Gottfried's third round 28 was a course record and was the first sub-30 round of his career.
With a total of 14 holes-in-one, Gottfried tied with Peter Emmerson for the Aces title and was pipped for the title on the third extra hole.
After the event, Gottfried said: "Heading into the National Open I wanted to put in a good performance in such an important event, and I did just that.
"Getting a sub-30 round on an 18-hole course is one of my greatest achievements in minigolf and setting the new course record is great.
"I've never hit so many aces in a round and to get six in a row is unbelievable. I'm also pleased to have achieved another top 10 finish and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season."
Next up is the BMGA English Open in Bristol next month which will be held on the new 36-hole Jungle Rumble course.
