Spireites in for Talbot

Striker joins Chesterfield

Livewire striker Drew Talbot has sealed a protracted move to League Two Chesterfield – meaning more players could be on their way to Kenilworth Road.

While the Hatters lost 2-1 at home to a Manchester United XI at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night, the 23-year-old striker was discussing a potential move to Saltergate which was finalised yesteday.

Speaking on Tuesday evening, Town manager Mick Harford, who was full of praise for Talbot's attitude, said: "Chesterfield came in today and he has gone up there to speak to them over the next 24 hours and we will see from there.

"He has made it clear he wants to go back north. We won't stand in the way of Drew if we think it is right for him. If it happens we wish him well.

"I saw Drew as a key feature this season.

"If he does go we will be bringing one or two in and it will be a good bit of business for us."

Chesterfield boss John Sheridan was happy with his capture, who put pen to paper on a two-year deal, saying: "He can play in a variety of positions. He can play out wide or up front but he comes here as a striker and I am pleased to get him in."

Talbot scored twice in 17 league games while on loan at the Spireites last season.

His non-stop running and industrious work ethic made him a favourite with both the Luton fans and his manager, but he only managed three goals during his two-and-a-half years at the club after a 250,000 move from Sheffield Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Hatters are still in discussions with 25-year-old left-sided player Lewis Emanuel, who has received interest from elsewhere. Harford said: "I think he was offered a good contract at Grimsby."

The Luton boss also revealed that the Hatters are set to make a decision on whether to keep 21-year-old former Crystal Palace and Eastleigh stopper David Wilkinson as understudy to number one Mark Tyler.
