However, after a weekend in of upsets in Sheffield it was a case of what might have been as she finished in fifth place.

Main had a bye through the first round and expected a tricky second round match when she faced Yorkshire’s Anna Clayton.

Main set her stall out early with some great aggression and length hitting to win 3-0 and set up a quarter-final tie against Yorkshire’s Charlie McCrone.

Main started well and took an early lead in the first, but seemed to lose focus and went down 11-9, the second going the same way too.

The LDSC youngster then stepped up the aggression and blasted McCrone away to win the third game 11-6, but didn’t start the fourth with the same attacking intent.

Despite saving three match balls, she couldn’t stave off a fourth, losing 11-9 as McCrone completed off a big upset.

The next day Main got off to a sluggish start as if mentally struggling to recover against fellow Regional squad member Leah Brooke.

However, Main regrouped and refocused to run out a comfortable 3-1 winner, taking her to the 5th/6th play-off match where she faced Warwickshire’s Sophia Lee.

Main had a titanic battle with Lee in the recent Coventry Open, but this time she blasted her off court to finish fifth.

Afterwards, she said: “I was very disappointed to lose my quarter-final but was determined to finish as high as I could to make up for the loss.”
