Star England striker signs on at Barton

Former Green man Watson joins Rovers

England Schoolboys striker Danny Watson has joined BGB Southern League Division One Midlands outfit Barton Rovers.

The young forward first caught the eye playing for Crawley Green in Molten Spartan SML Division Two last season, firing 17 goals in just 10 games.

Watson has spent the first half of the current campaign playing for Eagle Bitter UCL Division One strugglers Kempston Rovers, but netted just once in eight appearances.

He made an immediate impact for the Three Lions back in May when he scored after coming on as a substitute during the win over Scotland at Wembley.

Barton's last two scheduled league fixtures - at Woodford United on New Year's Day and at home to Chasetown on Saturday - were both postponed due to frozen pitches. This weekend, Barton are due to make the trip to bottom club Malvern Town, kick-off 3pm.

Neighbours Dunstable Town, meanwhile, have also been left frustrated by the cold snap, as their home clash with Leighton Town on New Year's Day, the weekend's game at Atherstone Town and the midweek home clash with AFC Sudbury were all postponed due to frozen pitches.

Leaders Leamington are in town on Saturday, with kick-off at Creasey Park also 3pm.

Blues boss Lee Cowley has confirmed that the club are trying to extend the loan of Boreham Wood midfielder Joe Reynolds, after his initial three-month loan spell expired.
