Thowers in fine form as Luton win

Luton AC climbed up to seventh in the Southern Women's League Division One following their victory at Stockwood Park.

The hosts finished above Bedford & County AC, Newbury and Epsom & Ewell and will take the impetus into the final meeting of the season at league leaders Southampton at the end of August.

Highlights of the victory were the performances of Shannon Bunker and Sue Wise in the throwing events.

Bunker won the discus with an effort of 32.33m, the B string hammer with 35.83m, came second in the javelin with 29.17m and third in the shot with a throw of over 11m.

Wise claimed three victories, the best of which came in the hammer where she set a new club record of 42.74m.

She backed this up with first place finishes in the B string shot, 9.15m, and the B string discus, 25.73m.

Hannah Longworth celebrated her return from the English Schools' Championships with victories in both the long and triple jump with distances of 5.04m and 11.03m respectively.

Katie Doody won the B string triple jump with 10.30m, while Kelly Lapore was victorious in the B string long jump with a leap of 4.99m.

After a two year absence from the sport, Monica Bramwell continues to improve and she recorded a brace of second places in the 100m and 200m in times of 12.8secs and 26.2secs. Bramwell was joined by Shanara Hibbert and Sarah Conway in the 4x100m relay team, the foursome finishing second in 51.4secs.

In the 400m, Amy Fleming was second in 1.01.4mins, while in the B string event, Nicole Matthew was runner-up in 1.08.5mins.

Jo Winfield won both the B string 1,500m and 3,000m races, Louise Peters triumphed in the 1,500m and was second in the 3,000m and Rosie Keane and Cleo Lewis were second over the line in the two 800m races.
