Vital win for Luton

Bright strike sinks Winchmore Hill & Enfield

Luton Town Hockey Club men's first XI registered a much-needed win with a 1-0 victory against Winchmore Hill & Enfield in Division Two South of the East Hockey League.

Both sides had chances in the first half, but neither were able to find the target and the game was goalless at half-time.

Luton started strongly after the interval and with their defence repelling everything that was thrown at them, they took the lead when Graham Bright netted from close range after being put in by Mickey Crowson.

Tom Dobson then produced a superb save from a penalty flick to keep Luton ahead and although they squandered a couple of good chances, they had done enough to take the spoils.

The men's second XI were on convincing form as they trounced Blueharts IIIs 6-1 in Division Four Southwest.

Luton were on top for virtually the whole contest leading 3-0 at the halfway stage before wrapping things up in the second period.

Grant Homann and Clive Whittle scored a brace apiece and they were joined on the scoresheet by Matt Ryan and Jimmy Fielden.

In Division Six Southwest, Alex Robinson and Gary Hickers were on target for the men's third XI in their 2-2 draw with Winchmore Hill & Enfield IIIs.

In the Midlands Feeder League, the ladies' first XI went down 2-1 at home to Bridgenorth.

Luton defended solidly throughout against the second place visitors, but only had Amy Gray's effort to show for their efforts.

The ladies' second XI were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline against

Royston in Division One of the Five Counties League.

Royston scored twice early on to take the lead and although Luton fought back, two late strikes wrapped up the win for the visitors.

The ladies' third XI played their best hockey of the season, but despite evident signs of progress, they lost 2-0 to Potters Bar IIs in Division Four.

Meanwhile, the club's U11s competed in a friendly tournament in Bedford, winning five of their six games.
