Performance will be beamed back live from New York
A season of performances by the world-renowned New York Metropolitan Opera is being shown live in Luton – on a giant cinema screen.

The town's Cineworld has installed a new satellite dish on the roof of the Galaxy complex so the operas can be beamed across the Atlantic and a wider audience can enjoy the music.

Cinema-goers will get to see some of the most famous international operas. The programme started on October 11 with Strauss's Salome transmitted in spectacular high definition.

Next up is Hector Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust, conducted by James Levine and starring Susan Graham and Marcello Giordani.

If you fancy going to the show on Saturday, November 22, we have 10 pairs of £10 tickets to give away.

Those attending the 6pm event will enjoy an extra special experience as each opera not only includes a live performance, but a behind-the-scenes feature, with interviews from the artists, directors and stage managers.

Cineworld Luton's general manager Daisy Sapunova said she hoped the Met Opera season would be the first of many live events to be screened at the cinema.

The Metropolitan Opera season will run until May, 2009 and includes 11 performances in total.
