Footage from the big fundraiser at Stockwood Park

Stockwood Park was a sea of pink on Sunday when more than 3,000 women, family members and friends joined Cancer Research UK's annual Race For Life.

Before firing the starting pistol, X Factor finalist Beverley Trotman had the huge crowd singing along to Sister Sledge's We Are Family' - in spite of nearly being blown off the stage by gale force winds.

The Luton teacher, sporting a trendy cap, described the atmosphere as "awesome" and said: "I'm so glad and honoured to be part of this fantastic event. It's so much more worthwhile than any talent competition."

The 5km course was lined by dads, boyfriends, brothers and husbands applauding the women taking part and encouraging them to complete the race they'd all entered in memory of someone special - whether it was "My dear father, love you and miss you every day" or simply "Everyone suffering from this terrible disease".

It is hoped to raise more than £223,000 from the event so that "Together we will beat cancer."

Today's Vote

Should worldwide tours of the Olympic flame be abandoned to stop giving protestors an easy target
Yes, it's a pointless stunt anyway and would not be missed
No, you can't give in to bully tactics from any quarter
Bring on more protests, they are more entertaining than the sport
