Fans of diving and Tom Daley will be delighted to hear that the second series of Splash! will be filmed in Luton in the new year.
The celebrity diving show will onc eagain be filed at Inspire: Luton Sports Village during January and February.
Produced by Twofour, the show is screened on primetime ITV and shows off Luton’s state-of-the-art £26 million sports centre.
Pam Garraway, Corporate Director of Housing and Community Living, said: “The first series of Splash! which went out live to millions of households each Saturday night was a great success and made a positive impact on how Luton is perceived nationally, as well as highlighting the fantastic facilities we have to offer at Inspire.
“Inspire is a venue that everyone can use to get active and become healthier and the TV show helped us to attract new users with hundreds of people signing up to the Learn to Dive courses and a substantial waiting list for both swimming and diving lessons. We have also seen an increase in membership numbers and requests to hire the centre for regional and national events.”
Mrs Garraway addressed concerns that were raised during filming of the last series such as parking problems and the pool being shut to members of the public for prolonged periods while filming took place.
She said: “We understand some people have some concerns and that is why we are giving ourselves much more time to prepare. We have identified who and what will be affected so can now begin detailed discussions with affected groups and start making alternative arrangements and organising extra sessions well in advance.
“We realise there have been parking concerns in the past and this is being addressed as part of our planning which will include a professional parking company marshalling during filming to ensure there are no problems.”
Olympic bronze medal and British and European Championship winner Tom Daley will host the show again, which sees celebrities learn to dive and compete against each other.
Helen Barnet, Chief Executive of Active Luton who operate Inspire said: “The initial series has had a positive knock on effect by assisting us to achieve our goal to increase participation in sport and physical activity in our communities.
“Hosting the show also allowed us to make additional investment in the centre which would otherwise not have been possible, such as additional springboards and equipment for diving and gymnastics development programmes, allowing us to increase the number of lessons available.”
Money received from the filming will be used for re-investment into local sports and leisure facilities.
