Actor Marc Robinson has been playing Buddy Holly in tribute shows for the best part of two decades.
Yet even after all this time, he still can’t single out his favourite Buddy Holly song.
“There are so many,” he says. “I love them all – Rave On, It Doesn’t Matter Any More, True Love Ways . . .”
Audiences are in for a treat next Friday (April 25) when Marc stars in Buddy Holly - A Legend Reborn. It’s at Dunstable’s Grove Theatre for one night only.
The show took off when Marc, now 48, won the TV contest Stars in their Eyes. His authentic impersonation of the singer whose career was cut tragically short in a plane crash led to a series of fabulously successful productions that toured the British Isles, Europe and the Middle East.
A Legend Reborn delivers another slice of rock ‘n’ roll nostalgia, ensuring Holly’s incredible legacy and unforgettable hits live on.
Marc’s Buddy mania started when he left school in Maldon, Essex, and formed a band with a bunch of friends.
“I’ve always been a big fan,” he said. “His music just struck a chord with me. And as soon as I put on the glasses and we started playing his numbers, people would come up and comment – particularly those who’d met him. They said how much alike we were, and it snowballed from there.”
Marc, who’s appeared in EastEnders and The Bill, has met Buddy’s backing band, The Crickets. “They’re really nice guys,” he said. “Typical Texan lads – very gentlemanly. We even played on the same bill once.”
