Bedtime stories to her young son have inspired an author from Luton to write her first book.

Rachael Berry, a former pupil of Putteridge High School, spent many nights reading to her son Leo and promised she would write him a book one day. They had long discussions about characters and story lines.

Five-year-old Leo had many ideas so Rachael combined Leo's imagination with her love for drawing and rhymes and created her first illustrated children's book Sophie's Rainbow Wish.

The book is a colourful story, packed with magic and friendship. There is also the extra bonus of hidden objects to find throughout the book; like artefacts, treasures, fossils and toys.

In the book you can join Sophie and Lilly in a rhyming story full of friendship and magic. Two horses live a world apart with one in the ocean and one on the land. Sophie wants to run and explore the island just like Lilly, but Sophie is only a sea horse.

Rachael, who now lives in Market Harborough – though her family have stayed in Stopsley, said: “You will also notice as you read there are many things washed up on the shores and rubbish hiding everywhere. It's a great way to raise children's awareness of plastic pollution in the ocean and the importance of recycling and conservation.”
