Luton fans would love to see Aston Villa loanee James Bree sign for the club once more next term.

The 22-year-old full back made 42 appearances during his loan spell at Kenilworth Road last term, having a mixed spell to start with, before coming into his own once Nathan Jones returned as boss and the season resumed after lockdown.

Bree started the final five games and was an influential figure, with three assists, two in Luton's Championship decider against Blackburn Rovers, plus winning the penalty that James Collins scored in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley.

He also turned in a man of the match display during the 1-1 draw with QPR too and when asked on Twitter if they would like the former Barnsley player to return, almost 1,000 Luton supporters voted with an overwhelming 93 per cent wanting him to come back.

Giving their reasons why, @HarisLtfc said: "If he plays like he has done under NJ then definitely yes. he looks like a different player."

@Seanhogan1997 tweeted: "100% been brilliant since the restart," while @Lee_Evans22 added: "He’s young and hungry and we could develop him to be the next James Justin and Stacey etc. Along with guidance from NJ and staff he could develop into one of the best."

Talking about Bree in recent interviews, Jones said: "He reminds me a lot of Jack (Stacey), different pathways obviously, but reminds me so much and I'm really, really impressed with the kid.

“He's developing, he's done fantastically well for me and I'm really, really pleased to have him as I really think there’s a player there."

Bree, who has another year left on his contract at Villa Park, is unlikely to break into the side after they retained their Premier League status on the final day of the campaign.

He has already had two loan spells since signing from Oakwell back in January 2017, spending the second half of the 2018-19 campaign at Ipswich Town, plus last season's stint with Luton.

Speaking about his own future after the QPR game, Bree added: "I don't really know what’s going on.

"At the moment, my main goal is keeping Luton in the Championship, that's what I want to do.

"Then we’ll see what happens there and then go from there."
